Indonesia to transition PPPK teachers to full-time and PNS status

The Indonesian government has announced a major policy shift regarding the status of Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK), specifically targeting teachers. Under the new plan, part-time PPPK teachers will automatically transition to full-time status starting in January 2027 without requiring a test.

Full-time PPPK teachers will be given the opportunity to participate in Civil Servant (PNS) selection processes, which are expected to open in early 2027. The government is prioritizing teachers, including religious educators, for this phased transition. Additionally, Government Regulation (PP) Number 26 of 2026 has been signed to allow PPPK lecturers to transition to PNS status to ensure career stability.

To support this transition, the Ministry of Finance has prepared approximately Rp 31 trillion. Furthermore, the central government will assume responsibility for PPPK teacher salaries, shifting the financial burden from regional budgets (APBD) to the national budget (APBN). Local governments, such as in Maluku and Bali, have noted that this shift will provide greater fiscal flexibility for regional development.
