Indonesia plans PPPK status transition to central government

The Indonesian government and DPR RI are advancing a major policy shift regarding the status of Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK), particularly for teachers. The plan includes transitioning part-time PPPK to full-time status and allowing full-time PPPK to participate in the 2027 Civil Servant (PNS) selection process.

A key component of this reform is the transfer of PPPK employment status from regional governments to the central government. To support this transition, Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced that Rp31 trillion has been prepared through budget reallocation. This move is expected to alleviate the fiscal burden on regional budgets, which currently face high personnel expenditure costs.

While the Perhimpunan Pendidikan dan Guru (P2G) and local regional councils have expressed support for the improved welfare and redistribution potential, discussions continue regarding technical implementation. The DPR is awaiting specific regulations to ensure that the centralized management of PPPK does not lead to teacher shortages in remote areas like Papua and NTT.
