Indonesia transforms Posyandu to provide integrated community services
Indonesia is undergoing a transformation of Posyandu (Integrated Healthcare Center) institutions to expand their role beyond maternal and child health services. Under new mandates, these community institutions are being repositioned to support the implementation of six Minimum Service Standards (SPM), which include education, health, public works, housing, social affairs, and public order and protection.
In Barito Utara, local leadership is pushing for integrated primary services to ensure these centers can address various grassroots needs. Similarly, the Ministry of Home Affairs has emphasized that this transformation requires strengthening institutional legality, administrative order, and registration. The goal is to make Posyandu an adaptive part of village and sub-district governance that can respond to diverse local community requirements through multi-sectoral synergy.
