Indonesia U-19 clinches semifinal berth after 2-1 win over Vietnam
Indonesia’s under‑19 national team secured a place in the semifinals of the 2026 AFF U‑19 Championship by defeating Vietnam 2‑1 at the North Sumatra Main Stadium in Deli Serdang. Reno Salampessy opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, Vietnam equalised through Nguyen Quoc Khanh in the 73rd, and substitute Evandra Florasta converted a penalty in stoppage time (90+1) to restore the lead.
The victory gave Indonesia a perfect nine points from three group matches, confirming them as champions of Group A and guaranteeing semifinal qualification. Coach Nova Arianto praised the squad’s development, saying, “I am happy because the players showed good progress from the first, second and third matches.” He also noted that the medical team is monitoring the condition of Reno Salampessy after his injury.
With the group finished, Indonesia’s semifinal opponent will be decided by the outcomes of Groups B and C, leaving possibilities such as Thailand, Malaysia or Australia.
