Indonesia urges Roblox to comply with child safety regulations
Indonesian Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid met with Roblox Corporation Co-Founder and CEO David Baszucki in Silicon Valley to discuss compliance with national child protection regulations.
Hafid emphasized the importance of adhering to Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025, known as PP TUNAS, which governs electronic systems for child protection. While acknowledging Roblox’s existing safety efforts—such as facial age estimation and the launch of Roblox Kids—the Minister called for more robust age verification for users under 16.
Key requests from the Indonesian government include the implementation of ‘safety-by-design’ principles to prevent children from interacting with strangers outside the platform’s built-in systems. Additionally, Hafid urged Roblox to provide transparent compliance reports and to establish a local presence in Jakarta through an office or a senior representative.
