The gaming platform Roblox is facing increasing legal and legislative scrutiny regarding its child safety protocols. In mid-August 2026, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism launched a formal investigation. Data indicates that 65,391 reports of suspected child exploitation were sent to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in 2025, more than doubling the previous year’s figure.

Roblox Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman stated the company is built on the principle of safety and expressed confidence in its protective measures. In response to these pressures, Roblox has announced new policies to restrict games using “reward-based media feeds”—mechanics that combine autoplay features with reward systems to maintain engagement—within its Roblox Kids and Select modes.

Simultaneously, Roblox is facing legal challenges from multiple states. The Texas Attorney General has accused the company of ‘stonewalling’ the discovery process in a lawsuit alleging that the platform allowed sexual predators to exploit children. International pressure has also mounted. In Australia, the eSafety Commissioner, Julie Inman Grant, has criticized the platform for insufficient measures to prevent unwanted contact between adults and children, calling for external audits to ensure compliance with the Online Safety Act. To address these concerns, Roblox is expanding its safety architecture, including the global rollout of facial age estimation and enhanced human moderation.
