Indonesia video commerce transactions reach 2.6 billion
Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, announced that video commerce transactions in Indonesia have surged by nearly 90 percent, reaching 2.6 billion transactions. This growth highlights the integration of online and offline commerce, as physical store owners increasingly use mobile devices to conduct live streaming sales to online customers.
With approximately 800,000 online sellers currently active in the country, the rise of video commerce is seen as a major driver for the digital economy, which is projected to reach approximately USD 100 billion by 2025. The trend is supported by a growing social media user base, which has exceeded 180 million active users. Airlangga noted that the adoption of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) will be crucial for optimizing e-commerce through personalized consumer algorithms, providing significant opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to expand their markets.
