Indonesia water woes prompt local actions in Yogyakarta and Central Java

In Yogyakarta's Bambanglipuro district, residents reported their borehole water turning foamy and discolored after a free‑meal kitchen (MBG) began operating on 6 April 2026. A 54‑year‑old resident, Singgih Prabowo, said the water became unsuitable for cooking, bathing and washing, forcing his family to switch to municipal supply and incur higher costs. Local officials have inspected the site and scheduled mediation to determine the cause and find a solution.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and local disaster offices are distributing clean water to families hit by drought in Central Java and East Java. In Semarang Regency, 60 households in Kemitir village received two tanker loads (≈5 000 L) on 4 July, while in Pasuruan Regency, East Java, four water deliveries were sent to roughly 240 households in Kadungrejo village. Authorities urge water‑saving measures and continued monitoring of drought‑prone areas.
