BMKG issues weather alerts and cloud seeding updates across Indonesia

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has issued various weather warnings and operational updates across Indonesia for early September 2026.

In several regions, extreme weather is expected. Padang is highlighted for potential heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds. Parts of West Sumatra, including Padang Pariaman and Agam, are also under alert for thunderstorms. Conversely, Jakarta is forecasted to experience mostly sunny to partly cloudy conditions, though some areas may see light rain.

To combat environmental crises, BMKG is conducting Weather Modification Operations (OMC). In Jambi, cloud seeding is being utilized to mitigate forest and land fires, with operations expected to continue through early September. Similarly, in the Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) region, a joint task force is using cloud seeding to address water deficits in the Sepaku Reservoir and to suppress widespread forest fires caused by extreme dry spells.

Other regional updates include reports of hazy conditions in Malang and meteorological drought warnings in parts of Nusa Tenggara Barat.
