Indonesia‑Australia trade surges under IA‑CEPA as Katalis 2.0 program launches

Bilateral trade between Indonesia and Australia has risen dramatically since the Indonesia‑Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA‑CEPA) took effect in 2020. Australian Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Matt Thistlethwaite said, "Since IA‑CEPA began in 2020, two‑way trade has increased threefold," and noted that Australian investment in Indonesia has grown about 8 % to roughly US$1.2 billion annually. The partnership also sees a boost in services, especially tourism, with Bali remaining the top destination for Australian visitors.

In Jakarta, the two governments launched Katalis 2.0, a new program funded by Australia to deepen trade and investment ties under IA‑CEPA. The initiative builds on the first phase (2021‑2025), expanding opportunities for businesses, strengthening institutions, and promoting inclusive growth for women and under‑represented groups. Indonesian Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to broaden market access and enhance competitiveness.

The combined efforts aim to sustain the rapid growth in goods, services, and investment flows between the two nations.
