The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) has clarified that the appearance of three F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets over Jakarta on Friday, August 28, 2026, was part of official training exercises. The maneuvers were conducted to prepare for the Merdeka Run, an event celebrating the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence.
The aircraft departed from Iswahjudi Air Force Base and flew toward the National Monument (Monas) area before landing at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base. According to Air Force spokesperson Air Commodore I Nyoman Suadnyana, the flight operations are part of a series of celebrations that will also include CN-295 aircraft carrying paratroopers and EC-725 Caracal helicopters carrying a large flag.
