Indonesian Army officer named suspect in fatal shooting of colleague

The Indonesian Army has named Second Lieutenant AG as a suspect in the death of Second Lieutenant Jihad Ahmad Al-Rasyid. The incident occurred at the Group 2 Kopassus weapons warehouse in Kartasura, Sukoharjo, Central Java.

Investigations suggest the death was caused by negligence during a firearm inspection. It is alleged that AG cocked a pistol without ensuring the chamber was empty while his finger was on the trigger, causing a bullet to discharge. AG is being charged under Article 474 of the Criminal Code regarding negligence resulting in death, which carries a maximum prison sentence of five years.

In addition to legal proceedings, the military has imposed administrative sanctions on AG, revoking his elite qualifications in Para, Komando, and Anti-Terror training. The case has been transferred from the Kopassus Military Police Detachment to the Denpom IV/4 Surakarta for further processing. The Indonesian Army stated that the investigation is being conducted objectively and transparently to maintain institutional integrity.
