Kopassus officer death investigation
Overview
On October 24, 2026, Kopassus officer Letda Inf Jihad Ahmad Al-Rasyid died following an incident at the Group 2 Kopassus equipment warehouse in Kartasura, Central Java. Initially, Kopassus Public Relations Chief Colonel Indra Mardianto characterized the death as an accident caused by a pistol exploding due to negligence, denying social media reports of a shooting.
By October 30, the Indonesian Army named Second Lieutenant AG as a suspect in the death. Investigations alleged that the fatality resulted from negligence during a firearm inspection, specifically that AG cocked a pistol without ensuring the chamber was empty while his finger was on the trigger. AG faces charges under Article 474 of the Criminal Code for negligence resulting in death. The military has also imposed administrative sanctions on AG, revoking his elite qualifications in Para, Komando, and Anti-Terror training. The case has been transferred to the Denpom IV/4 Surakarta for further processing.
