Indonesian authorities collaborate to prevent extremism through youth sports and vocational training
The National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI Pusat) is exploring a collaboration with the Densus 88 Counter-Terrorism Unit to build character in the younger generation through sports. This initiative aims to prevent intolerance, radicalism, extremism, and terrorism (IRET). KONI officials stated that the partnership aligns with the national goal of reaching the top five in the 2044 Olympics while fostering values such as sportsmanship, friendship, and mutual respect.
Separately, the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) and Densus 88 are providing vocational training to terrorism convicts at Nusakambangan Island. Dozens of inmates are receiving bakery production skills to promote self-reliance and economic stability upon their release. Future training programs are planned to include agriculture and food production to further support the reintegration of inmates into society.
