Indonesian counter-extremism and delinquency prevention

Overview

Indonesian authorities are implementing various initiatives to combat radicalism and social issues. The National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI Pusat) is exploring a partnership with the Densus 88 Counter-Terrorism Unit to use sports to foster character and prevent intolerance, radicalism, extremism, and terrorism (IRET) among youth.

In addition to youth sports, the Directorate General of Corrections and Densus 88 are providing vocational training, such as bakery production, to terrorism convicts at Nusakambangan Island to support their reintegration into society.

Parallel to these efforts, police departments are launching educational programs like “Polisi Peduli Pendidikan” and “Polisi Jogo Sekolah” to address juvenile delinquency, drug abuse, and online gambling. These programs involve officers engaging directly with students in schools to increase legal awareness and mitigate issues such as bullying and brawls.
