Indonesian banking sector implements strategic service expansions and asset recovery

The Indonesian banking sector is undergoing various strategic shifts and service expansions. Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) has launched the GREAT BSI 2026 program, which aims to auction approximately 2,000 assets—including houses, land, shops, apartments, and warehouses—between September 9 and December 12, 2026. This initiative, held in collaboration with the Directorate General of State Assets and the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning, serves as a strategy for asset recovery and improving financing quality.

Other major financial developments include Maybank Indonesia establishing a partnership with Sunway Medical Centre in Malaysia to provide healthcare benefits for premier customers. Additionally, Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) is preparing to launch a gold savings service through its Bale application in collaboration with Pegadaian, following increased public interest in gold investments.

On a macroeconomic level, economists predict Indonesia's foreign debt ratio will remain stable at approximately 30–31 percent of GDP for the second half of 2026. Meanwhile, the banking industry's risk perception remains optimistic for the third quarter of 2026, with banks managing liquidity and credit risks effectively. There is also a noted trend of banks shifting liquidity from Bank Indonesia Rupiah Securities (SRBI) toward credit distribution as credit growth strengthens.
