Indonesian banking liquidity and BSI asset auctions

Overview

The Indonesian banking sector continues to undergo liquidity shifts and strategic risk management adjustments. Bank Indonesia has returned approximately Rp 440 trillion to banks through macroprudential incentives, such as reducing mandatory minimum reserve requirements, to encourage credit distribution to priority sectors like MSMEs, food, and housing.

As a result of increased liquidity, banks are rebalancing portfolios, evidenced by a decrease in holdings of Bank Indonesia Rupiah Securities (SRBI) as institutions shift toward productive credit assets. Banking industry risks for the third quarter of 2026 are considered controlled, with the Risk Perception Index rising to 57.

In a specific effort to improve financing quality and support asset recovery, Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) has launched the ‘GREAT BSI 2026’ program. Running from September 9 to December 12, 2026, the initiative aims to auction approximately 2,000 assets, including residential houses, land, shops, apartments, and warehouses. To ensure transparency, BSI is collaborating with government agencies such as the Directorate General of State Assets and the Ministry of Agraria and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency. Live auction events are scheduled for cities including Jakarta, Bandung, Batam, and Banda Aceh.
