Indonesian cities use Car Free Day to boost local MSMEs

Local governments in Indonesia are utilizing Car Free Day (CFD) events to stimulate regional economies and support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

In Medan, the CFD held at Jalan Sumatera in the Belawan Pusat district attracted over 6,000 participants. The event serves as a promotional platform for 160 local MSMEs, offering a space for residents to engage in healthy activities while purchasing local culinary and creative products. Mayor Rico Waas stated that the initiative aims to integrate healthy lifestyles with economic empowerment for the community.

Similarly, the Mojokerto Regency government has launched the Peken Wilwatikta CFD on Jalan R. A Basoeni in Sooko. Inaugurated by Regent Muhammad Albarraa, the event is designed to create a multiplier effect on the local economy by providing a venue for MSMEs, artists, and cultural performers. The program intends to serve as both a public space for exercise and a cultural stage to introduce local talent to the community.
