Indonesian Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti launches school revitalization program in Purbalingga
On 27 June 2026, Education and Culture Minister Abdul Mu’ti inaugurated a revitalisation programme for primary and junior‑high schools in Purbalingga regency, Indonesia. The programme, part of the broader Government effort that includes the Program Indonesia Pintar (PIP) and assistance for out‑of‑school children, aims to create safe, comfortable and well‑equipped learning spaces while raising teacher competence. Mu’ti stressed that education must build character and competitiveness, saying, “Education is not only for getting a job, but how to build superior Indonesian humans, with character, able to face future challenges.”
The regency reported that 45,651 students benefited from PIP, 44 schools received revitalisation support in 2025 and an additional 12 schools in 2026. Local officials said the upgrades improve motivation and learning conditions. A student from SMP Negeri 2 Kutasari expressed gratitude, noting the new facilities make studying more enjoyable. The weekly Antara roundup highlighted the same objectives, adding that the programme also seeks to stimulate local economies through self‑managed construction.
Overall, the initiative is presented as a strategic step toward producing a skilled, character‑strong generation that can contribute to Indonesia’s “Golden Age 2045”.
