Indonesian firms' UMKM programs lift incomes, spark exports
PT Astra International’s empowerment program in Banyuwangi helped a dragon‑fruit farmer group double its output, raising production from 316 tonnes in 2021 to 595 tonnes in 2025 and increasing annual turnover from Rp 1.9 billion to Rp 11.9 billion. The group earned organic certification and began exporting fresh fruit and value‑added products to Singapore and Hong Kong.
Pertamina’s UMiMAX initiative offered cash‑strapped, unemployed workers such as 30‑year‑old Rahmadi training, micro‑finance and market access to start a small coffee stall. Within weeks the stall generated about Rp 1.9 million per week, providing a stable income for his family.
