GIIAS Surabaya 2026 showcases Indonesia's growing electric vehicle market

The GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) Surabaya 2026 is showcasing significant growth and technological shifts in the Indonesian automotive sector. Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza noted a strong upward trend in the industry, highlighting that national electric vehicle (EV) wholesale sales reached 517,000 units from January to July 2026, an 18.3% increase year-on-year. Notably, Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) sales surged by 88.6% to 83,000 units.

Major manufacturers are utilizing the Surabaya event to launch new models and expand their presence in East Java. GAC Indonesia is showcasing its AION UT, AION V, and HYPTEC HT electric models. Geely Auto Indonesia debuted the Coolray turbo SUV, while Changan introduced the Deepal S05 and Nevo Q05 electric SUVs. Mazda is presenting the All-New Mazda 6e Fastback, CX-5, and CX-30, emphasizing the region's importance as its second-largest market after Jabodetabek. Other participants include Mitsubishi with the New Xforce HEV, Jetour with the T2 i-DM PHEV, and iCAR presenting its new energy vehicle lineup.

Regional market performance also shows strength, with Suzuki reporting a 62% year-on-year growth in retail sales in East Java, led by the Carry model. The event reflects a broader industry transition from internal combustion engines toward electrification and advanced driver assistance systems.
