Indonesian Hajj pilgrims ship souvenirs via Pos Indonesia cargo from Saudi Arabia

Indonesian pilgrims on the Hajj are increasingly using Pos Indonesia’s cargo service to send the souvenirs they purchase in Saudi Arabia back to Indonesia. Because pilgrims are limited in baggage weight on chartered Hajj flights, many opt to collect their items and ship them via cargo. Pos Indonesia staff in the Al Waha market in Mecca report that individual shipments can reach up to 100 kg, split into two boxes, and that the first two shipments per pilgrim are exempt from import duties. For a third shipment, normal customs fees apply, prompting officials to advise pilgrims to consolidate their purchases before shipping.

The service operates from designated post offices in Mecca and Medina, where staff gather parcels, pack them, assign tracking numbers and arrange transport to the pilgrims’ hotels before onward shipment to Indonesia.
