Indonesian leaders urge youth engagement in social and political spheres
In Indonesia, leaders are emphasizing the critical role of the younger generation in shaping the nation's future through social and political engagement.
In Kepulauan Meranti, Regent Asmar encouraged the 'Generasi Berencana' (GenRe) ambassadors to serve as role models for teenagers. During the GenRe Grand Final, Asmar highlighted the need for youth to build character and creativity to navigate challenges such as drug abuse, risky sexual behavior, and early marriage. The event aimed to provide a platform for youth to plan their futures effectively amidst changing social environments.
Separately, Ruby Chairani, a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, urged young women to prove their capabilities in the political arena. Noting that Gen Z and millennials comprised approximately 58 percent of the 2024 election voters, Chairani emphasized that this demographic shift presents significant opportunities for political participation. She also stressed the importance of digital literacy to combat misinformation, such as hoaxes and deepfakes, which increasingly influence political discourse in digital spaces.
