Indonesian authorities seize 25,200 illegal cigarettes in Rembang crackdown

In a joint operation on 23 July 2026, police, Satpol PP, the District Attorney's Office and the Customs office seized 25,200 illegal cigarettes from a shop in the Sulang district of Rembang, Central Java. The cigarettes, representing six brands (Trick, Humer, RF, ESSS, ANGKER and BESTIE), were traced to sources outside the regency. The confiscated stock was handed over to the Kudus Customs office for processing.

Earlier in the week, the Bontang Customs office reported 39 enforcement actions that recovered 100,920 illegal tobacco sticks and 94.67 litre of untaxed alcoholic beverages, valued at about Rp 186 million, saving an estimated Rp 120 million in potential revenue loss. The operation focused on illegal cigarettes and the removal of unlicensed alcoholic drinks.

In Jepara, a separate joint raid involving Satpol PP, fire services and local police inspected markets for untaxed goods but found no illegal cigarettes. Officers used the opportunity to educate merchants on the risks and legal requirements for tobacco products.

All three actions reflect a coordinated effort by Indonesian law‑enforcement agencies to curb the distribution of untaxed tobacco and protect state revenue.
