Indonesian Marine Corps receives first 12 US-made AAV amphibious vehicles

The Indonesian Navy’s Marine Corps (Kormar) has received its first 12 Assault Amphibious Vehicles (AAV7A1) as part of a larger 35-unit modernization program. The vehicles arrived at Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta on September 22, 2026, following a government-to-government agreement between Indonesia and the United States.

The AAV-M35 variant is designed to enhance littoral and ship-to-shore power projection. Each vehicle can transport 24 personnel (21 passengers and 3 crew) and is capable of operating in Sea State 5 conditions, with wave heights between 2.5 and 4 meters. Powered by a 525-horsepower Cummins V930 engine, the vehicles can reach speeds of 15 km/h in water and 75 km/h on land.

This acquisition aims to replace aging amphibious armor, such as the South Korean-made LVT-7A1 platforms. The remaining 23 vehicles in the procurement package are expected to arrive in subsequent batches through late 2026.
