Indonesia-US amphibious vehicle procurement

Overview

The Indonesian Navy’s Marine Corps (Kormar) has begun receiving its first batch of 12 US-made Assault Amphibious Vehicles (AAV7A1) as part of a broader modernization program. The initial delivery, which arrived at Tanjung Priok Port in late September 2026, consists of 11 AAVP7 personnel carrier variants and one AAVC7 command variant.

This acquisition represents Indonesia’s first significant Foreign Military Sale (FMS) deal with the United States. The $23 million procurement includes 35 units intended to replace aging South Korean-made LVT-7A1 platforms and enhance maritime defense and power projection capabilities.

Following this first batch, an additional 23 vehicles are expected to arrive by late November 2026. Indonesia plans to eventually acquire a total of 105 units through subsequent procurement batches scheduled for 2027 and 2028.
