Indonesian ministries launch initiatives to empower MSMEs
Indonesian government ministries are launching initiatives to empower Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through export expansion and domestic procurement programs.
Minister of Trade Budi Santoso introduced a ‘local to global’ strategy aimed at helping MSMEs and rural villages enter international markets. The Ministry of Trade plans to facilitate exports by connecting small businesses with Indonesian representatives abroad and implementing the ‘Desa BISA Ekspor’ program. Additionally, a ‘campuspreneur’ initiative has been established in collaboration with over 20 universities to train students in entrepreneurship and exporting.
Simultaneously, the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruarar Sirait, is promoting the ‘gentengisasi’ program. This initiative encourages the use of local MSME-produced roof tiles in public housing projects to boost the domestic economy. Following trials in Purwakarta and Majalengka, the program has already seen transaction commitments of approximately Rp3 billion, with products from Jatiwangi being dispatched to various housing developments.
