Indonesian National Police deny drug allegations at Bareskrim detention center

The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has denied allegations that the Bareskrim detention center serves as a drug den or provides illegal facilities for inmates. Following a sudden inspection and raid, Police Public Relations Chief Irjen Johnny Eddizon Isir stated that while several management and supervision violations were discovered, no narcotics use or trafficking was found.

Drug tests conducted on inmates, particularly those involved in narcotics cases, returned negative results. However, the inspection revealed various procedural breaches. Guards were found allowing family visits outside of scheduled times, and unauthorized facilities, such as kitchens for preparing food and coffee, were available to detainees.

Additionally, officers discovered cash and mobile phones hidden within cells, including one device concealed inside a book. The Propam Division has initiated investigations into the guarding officers involved in these violations to improve detention center governance and oversight.
