Indonesian officials address migrant worker issues in South Korea and Malaysia
Indonesian Deputy Minister for the Protection of Migrant Workers, Dzulfikar, oversaw the departure of 271 Indonesian migrant workers to South Korea under a Government-to-Government (G to G) program in Depok. Dzulfikar emphasized that working abroad serves as a vital opportunity for the younger generation to acquire skills, discipline, and international experience to support Indonesia's future development.
Separately, Member of Parliament Rieke Diah Pitaloka has called on the Indonesian government to take diplomatic and legal action to protect Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia. This follows calls from Malaysian lawmakers for large-scale operations to detain and deport foreign workers. Pitaloka warned that immigration enforcement should not be used as a pretext for human rights violations or modern slavery, noting that between 2.5 million and 3 million Indonesians could be affected by such measures.
