Indonesian parents swarm uniform shops ahead of 2026‑27 school year
In Purwakarta, West Java, the Jatnika school‑uniform store was packed with mothers preparing for the 2026‑27 academic year. Hundreds shopped for shirts, trousers, skirts and accessories, with many trying garments on the spot to ensure a proper fit. One shopper, Reni, said, “Beli tiga seragam. Kan besok sudah mulai pra MPLS. Jadi anak tidak ada waktu lagi,” indicating the urgency of the purchase.
At Jakarta’s Tanah Abang market, uniform sales have nearly doubled, with prices ranging from Rp 42,500 to Rp 80,500. Parents are buying for children moving up grades and often select larger sizes to extend the garments' use for two to three years. Shoppers appreciate the lower prices and bargaining opportunities compared with mall retailers.
Both locations illustrate a nationwide rush of parents to secure school attire before the new term begins.
