Indonesian police dismantle subsidized diesel hoarding syndicates
Indonesian police have dismantled two separate syndicates involved in the illegal hoarding and resale of subsidized diesel fuel in Banten and Lampung Selatan.
In Serang, Banten, the Polda Banten regional police arrested two suspects, NS and GJ, after seizing approximately 1,000 liters of subsidized diesel. The investigation revealed that the suspects used large trucks to purchase subsidized fuel from various gas stations along the Serang-Merak route. The fuel was then transported to a facility at PT Yasa Mitra Karya, where it was siphoned into jerrycans and large storage tanks to be resold at industrial prices of Rp11,000 per liter.
In Lampung Selatan, the Polres Lampung Selatan police raided a warehouse in Sukanegara Village following community reports of unusual truck queues at local gas stations. Authorities seized 2,395 liters (approximately 2.3 tons) of subsidized diesel, along with siphoning machines, jerrycans, and a truck. Two suspects, BS and MR, were apprehended. The group reportedly used a method of repeated refueling to collect fuel for storage, aiming to sell it at prices significantly higher than the regulated subsidized rates.
