Indonesian subsidy exploitation crackdowns

Overview

Indonesian authorities have conducted several operations to dismantle syndicates involved in the illegal exploitation of government subsidies.

In late September, police in Banten and Lampung Selatan dismantled diesel hoarding operations. In Serang, Banten, suspects were arrested after seizing approximately 1,000 liters of subsidized diesel that was being siphoned into storage tanks to be resold at industrial prices. In Lampung Selatan, police raided a warehouse and seized roughly 2,395 liters of subsidized diesel following reports of unusual truck activity at local gas stations.

In early October, police in Bandung dismantled a different syndicate focused on subsidized 3kg LPG gas. The group reportedly transferred the gas into portable canisters to be sold via direct sales and e-commerce platforms, generating daily profits of approximately Rp7.8 million.
