Indonesian police launch environmental reforestation initiatives
Police departments in Indonesia have launched tree-planting initiatives to promote environmental conservation and mitigate natural disaster risks.
In West Sumatra, Regional Police Chief Irjen Pol Jawari led a tree-planting event in Kuranji, Padang. The initiative, part of a ‘green policing’ program, aims to reduce the risk of landslides in areas vulnerable to hydrometeorological disasters. Jawari emphasized that the police role extends beyond law enforcement to include the protection and maintenance of the environment.
In North Sumatra, the Medan City Police (Polrestabes Medan) planted 1,997 tree seedlings in Amplas Village, Deli Serdang. The project seeks to foster community awareness and long-term environmental sustainability. Local officials noted that the effort requires ongoing maintenance and collective commitment to ensure the seedlings provide lasting benefits for future generations.
