Indonesian Provinces Launch New Disaster Management Plans for Floods, Fires and Drought

The provincial government of Bangka Belitung is drafting a gubernatorial regulation (rapergub) to strengthen coordination of natural‑disaster response. The draft covers flood, forest‑fire, drought and tornado mitigation, assigns clear duties to regional agencies, and places the governor in direct command with the BPBD as secretariat. Officials said the regulation will improve emergency preparedness ahead of an expected extended dry season in 2026.

In Central Java, the provincial BPBD and local authorities have been delivering clean‑water aid to villages on the slopes of Mount Merapi as drought conditions worsen. Around 21,949 households (about 61,456 people) have received water drops and public tank supplies. The effort includes a plan to build a piped water network from Tangkil to Tlogowatu to provide longer‑term water security.
