Indonesian provinces launch vehicle tax amnesty programs
Several Indonesian provinces are implementing vehicle tax amnesty programs to reduce financial burdens on citizens and update vehicle registration databases.
In Gorontalo, the Regional Police (Polda Gorontalo) announced a program running from August 10 to August 31, 2026. The initiative waives principal tax arrears and fines for Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB), requiring taxpayers to pay only the current year's tax. Police officials stated this will help modernize vehicle identification and registration data, which is essential for legal certainty and law enforcement control.
Similarly, the Southwest Papua Provincial Government has launched a waiver for PKB and Motor Vehicle Ownership Transfer Fee (BBNKB) fines. This program is scheduled from August 11 to September 11, 2026, to commemorate the 81st Independence Day of Indonesia. Local officials are encouraging residents to settle their arrears to support regional development.
