Indonesian provincial vehicle tax amnesty programs
Overview
To commemorate Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, several Indonesian provinces have implemented vehicle tax amnesty programs.
In Gorontalo, the provincial government launched an initiative via Governor’s Decree Number 325/28/VII/2026 to waive vehicle tax principal amounts and penalties. Regional Secretary Sofian Ibrahim noted that the program aims to assist residents and optimize regional revenue, highlighting that Gorontalo’s economic growth of 6.20% has surpassed the national average of 5.29%.
The Gorontalo Regional Police (Polda Gorontalo) specified that the program runs from August 10 to August 31, 2026, requiring taxpayers to pay only the current year’s tax. This measure is intended to modernize vehicle identification and registration data to ensure legal certainty and law enforcement control.
Southwest Papua has also launched a similar waiver for Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and Motor Vehicle Ownership Transfer Fee (BBNKB) fines, scheduled from August 11 to September 11, 2026, to support regional development.
