Regional sports competitions launch across Indonesia in 2026

Various provincial sports weeks (Porprov) are being held across Indonesia in 2026, serving as critical platforms for athlete development and preparation for national events like PON 2028.

In West Sumatra (Sumbar), the XVI Porprov officially commenced on October 2, 2026, after an eight-year hiatus. Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah opened the event, noting its role in preparing athletes for PON 2028. The competition features 53 sports branches distributed across 12 regencies and cities to stimulate local economies. Specific preparations include Tanah Datar hosting volleyball and boxing, while Padang hosts handball.

In Central Java, the XVII Porprov will involve 7,990 athletes competing for 2,769 medals across 58 sports branches. Vice Governor Taj Yasin emphasized the event as a stepping stone for international achievement.

In West Java, the Sumedang contingent is undergoing character building to strengthen mental resilience ahead of Porprov XV, scheduled for November 2026. Meanwhile, in West Sulawesi, KONI Sulbar is shifting its focus toward e-sports, hosting a championship in Mamuju to identify talent for future national competitions.
