Indonesia provincial sports week competitions

Overview

In September 2026, fourteen regional branches of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) in West Sumatra requested a postponement of the 2026 Provincial Sports Week (Porprov). The request was driven by delays in regional budget amendments necessary for funding athlete preparation, equipment, and logistics. Representatives expressed concerns regarding legal compliance and the ability of local committees to prepare contingents without proper budget authorization.

By October 2026, regional sports competitions were launching across various Indonesian provinces. In West Sumatra, the XVI Porprov officially commenced on October 2, 2026, marking the event’s return after an eight-year hiatus. The competition, involving 53 sports branches across 12 regencies and cities, was intended to prepare athletes for the 2028 National Sports Week (PON).

Other provinces also initiated or prepared for competitions, including Central Java, which organized the XVII Porprov for nearly 8,000 athletes, and West Sulawesi, which focused on e-sports talent identification.
