Indonesian Quarantine Agency facilitates Rp40.8 billion tropical commodity export

The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin), in collaboration with the Banten Provincial Government, has facilitated the export of premium tropical commodities valued at over Rp40.8 billion. The shipment, dispatched from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, includes mangosteen, crab, and edible bird's nests destined for markets in China and Taiwan.

Bird's nests accounted for the largest portion of the export value, totaling Rp38.7 billion, while crabs were valued at Rp1.9 billion. Abdul Kadir Karding, Head of Barantin, emphasized the importance of downstreaming (hilirisasi) to increase product value and local employment, suggesting that processed goods like instant bird's nest soup could offer higher returns than raw materials.

To support local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and farmers in meeting international health and safety standards, Barantin has introduced the ‘Export Clinic’ service. This initiative provides guidance to help producers navigate the complex requirements of destination countries and improve global competitiveness.
