Indonesian regional authorities intensify stunting prevention efforts
Regional authorities in Indonesia are intensifying efforts to combat stunting through data synchronization and community-based education. In Papua, Governor Matius D. Fakhiri and BKKBN representative Sarles Brabar emphasized the need for accurate, family-level data to ensure interventions are targeted effectively. A primary goal is to resolve data discrepancies between BKKBN and the Health Office to better assist high-priority areas such as Mamberamo Raya and Sarmi. The province is also encouraging the ‘Genting’ program, which seeks to involve the private sector and banking institutions in stunting prevention.
In East Jakarta, the PKK (Family Welfare Empowerment) cadres are being utilized as strategic drivers for stunting prevention. Through education and family assistance, these cadres work directly within communities to promote healthy development. The East Jakarta government is focusing on strengthening the capacity of these cadres to ensure they can effectively implement prevention strategies at the neighborhood level to foster a healthy generation.
