Indonesian regional banks expand financial literacy initiatives

Regional development banks in Indonesia are intensifying financial literacy efforts to promote digital security and inclusion.

In Banten, Bank Banten collaborated with the provincial government to host the ‘Smart Money Era Digital’ seminar. The initiative aims to educate civil servants, MSME owners, and students on managing finances within the fintech landscape. The program focuses on preventing risks such as illegal online loans, fraudulent investments, and online gambling, while encouraging the productive use of digital financial technology.

In North Sulawesi and Gorontalo, Bank Sulawesi Utara dan Gorontalo (BSG) has reported that 125,000 students have opened Simpanan Pelajar (SimPel) savings accounts, totaling Rp48.5 billion in deposits as of the first half of 2026. Supported by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the program partners with 1,200 schools to foster financial intelligence and discipline among the younger generation.
