Indonesian regional governments intensify food price monitoring to control inflation
Regional governments in Gorontalo and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) are increasing monitoring of staple food prices and supplies to maintain market stability and control inflation.
In Gorontalo, the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) and the Department of Cooperatives, SMEs, Industry, and Trade conducted inspections at Kayubulan Market. While many prices remain relatively stable, fluctuations were noted in certain commodities due to weather conditions, supply constraints, and increased demand. For instance, rice prices were recorded between Rp13,500 and Rp14,000 per liter, while bird's eye chili reached approximately Rp130,000 per kilogram. Local rice availability remains a concern as much of the supply is sourced from Central and South Sulawesi.
In West Nusa Tenggara, the provincial government has tightened periodic price monitoring in coordination with Bulog and local businesses. Following reports that annual inflation in NTB reached 4.18 percent in September 2026, officials have been instructed to proactively map surplus and deficit areas for key commodities such as chili, chicken, and shallots. The province is also utilizing inter-regional cooperation to manage supplies, such as egg distribution partnerships, to prevent price volatility in the food, beverage, and tobacco sectors.
