Indonesian regional governments intensify stunting prevention efforts

Local governments in Indonesia are intensifying efforts to combat stunting through improved data accuracy and community health services. In Batu City, the stunting prevalence rate rose from 10.19 percent to 12.75 percent in 2026. Regional Secretary Alfi Nurhidayat stated that this 2 percent increase is attributed to more massive and precise data validation through the Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI) and local health applications, rather than a decline in handling quality.

In Bangka Tengah, the regency government is focusing on strengthening the role of Posyandu (integrated service posts) cadres to increase community participation. Vice Regent Efrianda noted that low attendance at these posts is a primary concern. The government aims to optimize Posyandu as a vital tool for early detection of maternal and child health issues and as a mechanism for sustainable stunting intervention and monitoring.
