Indonesian regional governments launch Cheap Food Movement to stabilize prices
Local governments in Indonesia are implementing the Cheap Food Movement (Gerakan Pangan Murah or GPM) to stabilize food prices and control inflation.
In Indramayu, the Department of Food Security and Agriculture organized a GPM event in Jatisawit Lor village. The initiative provided essential goods such as rice, flour, sugar, eggs, cooking oil, and vegetables at prices below the market rate. Local officials noted that the program helps residents access staples like medium and premium rice at reduced costs.
Similarly, the Gorontalo Provincial Government, through its Department of Food Security, Crops, and Horticulture, held a GPM event in Bone Bolango Regency. Supported by Bank Indonesia Gorontalo, the program aims to ensure food availability, maintain community purchasing power, and manage food price stability through the Stabilization of Food Supply and Prices (SPHP) program.
