Indonesia evaluates AI regulations and content labeling

Indonesia is actively addressing the rapid integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across various sectors, focusing on regulation, education, and security. The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is currently reviewing ministerial regulations to mandate labeling for AI-generated content, such as videos and images, to prevent digital manipulation and fraud.

In the educational sphere, officials and educators are raising concerns regarding AI dependency. The Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, warned of the risks to children's critical thinking skills, while local education offices in Bantul emphasized the need for teachers to guide students in using AI ethically to avoid plagiarism. Similarly, religious education officials noted that while AI can strengthen scholarship in pesantren, it cannot replace the role of human teachers.

From a business and technical perspective, BDO Indonesia highlighted data security and the risk of deepfake technology as major hurdles for corporate AI adoption. Meanwhile, Telkomsel showcased nine locally developed AI innovations at Bali Tech Week 2026, including systems designed to detect digital scams. To support workforce readiness, strategic collaborations are also underway to provide specialized AI training for students and professionals.
