Indonesian Student Protests Over Free Nutrition Program Prompt Party Responses
Indonesia’s free school nutrition program (Makan Bergizi Gratis, MBG) has sparked student demonstrations across several regions. PDIP leader Said Abdullah insisted the party had no role in the protests, stating, “PDI‑Perjuangan had no involvement, neither cadres nor members.” He also dismissed claims linking former student leader Tiyo Ardianto to PDIP as “not make sense.”
Partai Solidaritas Indonesia (PSI) spokesperson Isyana Bagoes Oka defended the right to protest, noting the government is working to improve MBG with new leadership at the Badan Gizi Nasional. She urged the public to give the new BGN administration a chance to fix program management.
PSI also clarified President Joko Widodo’s recent regional visits, saying they were not a “political safari” but a response to community invitations, and highlighted his improved health enabling continued engagement.
