Indonesian Universities Gain BPOM Approval for New Health and Food Products

Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) received approval from Indonesia’s Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) for 15 research‑derived food products, including bread, virgin coconut oil, various forms of palm sugar, seaweed snacks and a ginger‑cream drink. The university aims to obtain BPOM clearance for about 200 additional innovations this year, emphasizing the move from laboratory research to marketable products and job creation.

The Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Brawijaya launched Deteko, a heart‑health beverage that blends green tea and green coffee with reduced caffeine. Deteko already holds a Household Industry Food Certificate (PIRT) and is applying for BPOM approval. Developed over 12 years with international publications, the drink is positioned as a functional product to help manage metabolic syndrome and reduce cardiovascular risk, with plans for industry partnerships and dedicated outlets.
