Indonesian universities launch AI programs to address digital talent gap

Indonesian higher education institutions are addressing the growing demand for digital expertise through new initiatives focused on Artificial Intelligence. BINUS University has launched a dedicated AI Program at its Bekasi campus to help bridge a projected national talent gap. The Ministry of Communication and Digital estimates that Indonesia will require approximately 12 million digital talents by 2030, with a current shortage of about 3 million.

According to the Microsoft Work Trend Index 2026, 33% of Indonesian workers are already advanced AI users, more than double the global average of 16%. BINUS University Rector, Dr. Nelly, stated that the program aims to encourage students to understand, evaluate, and apply AI to solve real-world problems rather than just increasing individual competence.

In a separate development, the Institut Bisnis dan Informatika Kosgoro 1957 (IBI K-57) emphasized the importance of academic integrity during its 2026 new student orientation. Rector Hazwan Yunaz advised students not to use AI as a “shortcut,” but rather as a “critical partner,” stressing that technology must be used responsibly and ethically to maintain academic foundations.
