Indonesia Vice President Gibran calls for safe siting of Red‑White Village cooperatives and school upgrades in NTT

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka visited SD Wolomoni in Ende, Nusa Tenggara Timur, urging that the Red‑White Village cooperative (KDMP) be placed after thorough community consultation and impact studies. He stressed that the project must not damage local schools or compete with existing village-owned enterprises, saying, “Jangan sampai ada yang dirugikan, apalagi ini area sekolah.” Gibran also reiterated the government's commitment to prioritize revitalisation of schools in remote (3T) areas, stating, “Pokoknya yang di area 3T ini kita prioritaskan.” The visit highlighted needs for improved school fences, clean water, internet connectivity and teacher housing.

Earlier, DPR Commission VI member Darmadi Durianto inspected the KDMP programme in Bali, noting that a solid business model and good governance are essential for the cooperatives’ sustainability. He called for clear enterprise direction before operations begin, emphasizing that success should be measured by quality management and community benefit, not merely the number of cooperatives.

Both officials underline that the KDMP initiative should complement, not compete with, local economies while supporting broader education and development goals in Indonesia’s underserved regions.
