Indonesia's 2026 Economic Census Calls for Accurate Business Data

Deputy Governor of West Java Erwan Setiawan urged businesses in the province to provide accurate, complete and honest information for the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026) being conducted by Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS). He made the appeal after BPS field staff visited his residence in Bandung on 7 July 2026, stressing that reliable data are essential for targeted economic development policies. BPS West Java head Margaretha Ari Anggorowati oversaw the interview.

In the Riau Islands regency of Karimun, BPS officials emphasized verification of census officers to prevent fraud. Head of BPS Karimun Lulus Haryono stated, “Kalau masyarakat ragu, silakan periksa identitas petugas. Jika mereka tidak bisa menunjukkan ketiga identitas tersebut, masyarakat berhak menolak.” Officers must wear a distinctive vest, carry an official assignment letter and show a barcode‑enabled ID card. The door‑to‑door census runs through 31 August 2026, covering 14 districts with 207 staff and asking roughly 39 questions per household to map business activity and household economics. Collected data will support regional planning, GDP estimates and broader economic policy decisions.
